Editor, Postgraduate Journal of Aesthetics

The editorial board of the Postgraduate Journal of Aesthetics invites applications for the post of editor.

The PJA is a long running, high quality journal in philosophical aesthetics with a strong reputation for publishing excellent postgraduate work and engaging interviews. The current editors are approaching the end of their tenure and we are looking to appoint one or two excellent postgraduate research students to take up the editorship of the journal from January 2015 for a period of one to two years.

This post represents a unique opportunity to gain professional experience in all aspects of managing an academic journal, including editing, managing anonymised peer-review and online submission systems. The editor of the PJA has broad discretion over the journal’s editorial policy and a budget to employ proof-readers, award an annual prize and travel to represent the PJA at conferences and workshops both nationally and internationally. Editing the PJA also provides an excellent way of expanding a network of academic contacts, and makes a good addition to professional experience and CV. The PJA is published three times a year, and the editorship entails a relatively low time commitment.

The successful candidate will be an excellent current postgraduate student with research interests in philosophical aesthetics. They should be registered (or about to be registered) as a postgraduate researcher at a British university. Some familiarity with peer-review practices, online submission systems, website management and/or publishing will be an advantage.

To apply, please send anonymised versions of the following in .pdf format to: editor@pjaesthetics.org

A current academic CV
A writing sample of not more than 3000 words
A brief statement outlining why you would make a good editor for the PJA, including any improvements or other changes you would make if you were awarded the post.
The deadline for applications is 15 September 2014. We especially welcome applications from members of underrepresented groups in the philosophical community.
