Awards and Prizes

New Horizons Award

As part of our commitment to increasing diversity and inclusion within British aesthetics and philosophy of art, the British Society of Aesthetics will bestow a New Horizons Award to the best paper submitted to the Annual Conference by a member of a group traditionally underrepresented in philosophical aesthetics. The winner will receive a £1000 honorarium and a travel grant of up to £1000 to attend the conference, and will be encouraged to revise the paper for submission to the British Journal of Aesthetics.

BSA Postdoctoral Award

The British Society for Aesthetics invites applications for a postdoctoral award in philosophical aesthetics, to the value of £21,000, to start in Autumn term in 2020. The fellowship is tenable for up to one year at any British philosophy department.

BSA Travel Stipends

The British Society of Aesthetics invites postgraduate students and early career researchers in the UK to apply for stipends of up to £800 towards travel and accommodation costs for participation in conferences or research visits to other universities (which may include select summer schools) on topics in aesthetics and the philosophy of art.

BSA Essay Prize 
The British Society of Aesthetics runs a biennial essay prize competition, open to early-career researchers in aesthetics. The winning author will receive £1,500 and an opportunity to present the paper at the Society’s annual conference. The winning essay will normally be published in the British Journal of Aesthetics. The next BSA Essay Prize Competition runs in 2020.
