October 9-11 2015, Atlanta, Georgia
This year’s conference will be held in Atlanta, Georgia concurrently with the conference of the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy (SPEP), which will run October 8-10, 2015. We are pleased to announce that the SRS keynote speaker for 2015 is David Carr, Professor Emeritus, Emory University.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Theory and Practice in Ricoeur’s Work.” The Society for Ricoeur Studies welcomes submissions that address the relation of theory and practice in Ricoeur’s work or the practical implications of Ricoeur’s philosophy in fields including but not limited to architecture, art practice, counselling, jurisprudence, medicine, nursing, and psychiatry. As well, the Society welcomes submissions that address any aspect of Ricoeur’s thought.
Papers
Please submit an abstract of approximately 300-500 words and attach a separate title page that includes the paper’s title, the author’s name, institutional affiliation, mailing address, and email address. Abstracts and papers may be in English, French, or Spanish. Please note that finished papers should be no longer than twenty minutes when read aloud (roughly 3000 words).
Panels
Proposals for a panel discussion of a theme, a book, or an author are also welcome. The proposal should include a brief description (300-500 words) of the topic and its rationale along with the names of the panel members (for a time period of 1:15 minutes). Please also attach a separate title page that includes the panel’s title along with the panel members’ names, institutional affiliations, mailing addresses, and email addresses.
New Scholars and Graduate Students Roundtable
New scholars and graduate students are encouraged to participate in this year’s roundtable. Graduate students and new scholars are welcome to suggest possible topics of interest for this year’s new scholars and graduate students roundtable. These should be sent to Dr Gonçalo Marcelo at goncalomarcelo@gmail.com no later than March 26, 2015. Gonçalo will be issuing a separate call for the roundtable with the chosen topic at a later date.
Members must be in good standing to submit an abstract proposal and to present at the Society’s conference. Membership dues are valid from September 1 to August 31. Members who paid dues at last year’s conference will remain in good standing until August 31, 2015. If your membership dues are not currently up-to-date, you can pay them through PayPal on the Society’s website (http://ricoeursociety.org/).
