The editors of ESPES. The Slovak Journal of Aesthetics are pleased to invite submissions for the general issue Aesthetic Crossroads 4.
We welcome original articles, short essays, interviews, and book reviews on any topic in the philosophy of art or aesthetics. Submissions should be accessible and thoroughly argued, and should be anonymised for blind peer-review. Research articles are original contributions that initiate a debate, offer a point of view on current trends in aesthetics and the philosophy of art, or introduce a scholarly discussion that has not yet been available in Czech or Slovak. Contributions to the Research articles section should not normally exceed 7,500 words (including bibliography). An abstract in English should be added of no more than 150 words.
Survey papers offer a synoptic view of recent work in a particular area of the field of aesthetics (‘state-of-the-art’ articles). Authors are invited either to provide an encyclopaedia-like review of the area or take a critical stance to work in the area. Contributions to the Survey Papers section should not normally exceed 7500 words. An abstract in English should be added of no more than 150 words.
Short essays and discussion pieces present fresh and concise contributions on a specific topic in aesthetics. Often related to a thematic symposium, they are meant to be kept brief, with clearly stated aims and tightly controlled arguments. Contributions to the Short Essays and discussion pieces section should not exceed 3,500 words (excluding notes and bibliography). An abstract in English should be added of no more than 150 words.
Interviews offer a portrait of the life and work of leading figures in contemporary aesthetic debates. Contributions to the Interviews section should not exceed 3500 words and must be formerly discussed with the editors.
Book Reviews comprise reviews of recently published volumes in relevant fields. Contributions to the Book Review Section should not normally exceed 3500 words (excluding notes and bibliography).
ESPES. The Slovak Journal of Aesthetics is a peer-reviewed, openaccess journal for articles, interviews and book reviews. ESPES is intended as an open online forum for contemporary debates in aesthetics and the philosophy and theory of art. The journal adopts a pluralistic theoretical approach, supporting different theoretical orientations and encouraging interdisciplinary studies and explorations of non-traditional aesthetic issues.
