CALL FOR RESPONDENTS:

Narrative Justice: A BSA Conference on Aesthetic Education from Theory to Practice

Narrative Justice: A British Society of Aesthetics Conference on Aesthetic Education from Theory to Practice is a two day conference that will be held at Edge Hill University from Tuesday 5th March to Wednesday 6th March 2019.  The purpose of the conference is to: (1) facilitate mutually-beneficial exchange between the humanities and the social sciences; (2) draw attention to the overlap between the disciplines of philosophical aesthetics and theoretical criminology; and (3) explore the interdisciplinary potential of subjects such as the imaginary of justice, narrative counter-terror, and the representation of crime in popular media.  The following six speakers have been confirmed: Professor Sarah Worth (Philosophy, Furman), Professor Ronnie Lippens (Criminology, Keele), Professor Derek Matravers (Philosophy, Open), Professor Eileen John (Philosophy, Warwick), Dr Ajit Maan (Conflict Analysis & Resolution, George Mason), and Dr Stephen Wakeman (Criminology, Liverpool John Moores).

In order to promote interdisciplinarity, each speaker will be allocated a respondent from a different discipline, selected from submissions.  Respondents will be able to claim up to £50 accommodation and £50 travel expenses and will be subsidised for the conference dinner.  (There is no accommodation available on campus.)  Free childcare facilities will be provided if required.  Submissions are invited from philosophy PhD students or early career researchers (defined for this purpose as having a PhD, but not a permanent/tenured contract at the time of submission) to respond to:

  • Professor Ronnie Lippens (Criminology, Keele)
  • Dr Ajit Maan (Conflict Analysis & Resolution, George Mason)
  • Dr Stephen Wakeman (Criminology, Liverpool John Moores)

The submission should consist of a 250-300 word outline of your interest in the work of one of the above and, preferably, an indication of how your research matches theirs. Submissions should be sent to mcgregor@edgehill.ac.uk by 1200 on Friday 9thNovember 2018.  Please title your email “Narrative Justice Respondent Submission”, include the outline in the body of the email, and do not send any attachments.
