The WRAF (White Rose Aesthetics Forum) is pleased to announce its 2016 conference, generously funded by the British Society of Aesthetics and hosted by the University of Sheffield (UK). This will be a one-day event on Tuesday, 20 September 2016. As part of this conference, we would like to invite three early-career researchers in philosophical aesthetics to present their work.
Submissions for these presentation slots will close at the end of this week. It is also an update to our previous emails to inform any interested parties that an induction loop system has now been procured and will be available for use at the conference.
Candidates must:
– Have completed, or have been enrolled in, a doctorate in Philosophy or a related discipline at any point before 27th
May 2016 and after 31st December 2011;
– Not be in a permanent academic position at the time of submission;
– Submit a detailed
abstract or presentation outline on any topic in aesthetics or the philosophy of art of no more than 900 words. This must be prepared for anonymous review,
and emailed as an attachment to jc962@york.ac.uk.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, 27th
May 2016;
– Attach a cover sheet to their submission, which should include: name, paper title, institution (if applicable);
– Format their presentation for a speaking time of 30-40 minutes max., to be followed by 20-30 minutes for discussion.
At the conference, each selected speaker presentation will be followed by a response from a Faculty member of one of the WRAF member Philosophy Departments (Hull,
Leeds, Sheffield and York). For this reason, selected speakers will be asked to submit a full copy of their paper (max. 4,000 words) by Friday, 26th
August 2016.
We strongly encourage submissions from women and/or members of minority or under-represented groups in philosophy. This conference will abide by the guidelines
set within the BPA/SWIP good practice scheme and all efforts will be made to follow guidelines in the same spirit with respect to all minority and under-represented groups in philosophy.
Disabled parking is available, and the venue (including toilet facilities) is wheelchair-accessible. An induction loop is available for use at the conference.
Other accessibility requirements can be provided, including but not limited to: a signer, a sighted guide, formatted materials (large print, Braille, etc.), food and water for assistance animals, and extra presentation time. Subsidies are available to selected
presenters as follows: £70 for travel expenses, £80 for overnight accommodation, £50 for accessibility costs (including child or dependent care arrangements), and £45 for lunch and dinner on the day of the event. We will make every attempt to extend a subsidy
to a required personal assistant as budget allows, but unfortunately cannot guarantee this.
All questions and correspondence should be addressed to the conference organising team at
jc962@york.ac.uk.
The paper selection will be chaired by Tom Cochrane and Dominic Gregory (University of Sheffield).
We look forward to receiving your submissions,
Adriana Clavel, Jamie Cawthra, James Rimmer and Tamsin Timbrell (WRAF conference organisers).
