Due to a continuous decline in print subscriptions, Oxford University Press is moving to online-only publishing for all their journals, including the British Journal of Aesthetics, in 2027.
While Oxford University Press has given the Society the option of organising their own production and distribution for print copies, the cost for this would be significant, and the majority of our members only read the Journal digitally. Therefore, the Society has made the decision to move the Journal to online-only publishing and will no longer accept orders for printed copies after 30 December 2025.
This will not affect any current subscriptions. Members who have purchased print copies due to be shipped in 2026 (Volume 66, Issues 1-4) will receive their publications as normal. Anyone with membership due to expire before the end of the year will also be able to buy these copies until 30 December 2025 when renewing their membership.
New members can purchase the final printed issues of the Journal, to be shipped in 2026, until 30 December 2025 on this page of our website: https://british-aesthetics.org/product/bsa-membership/
We understand some members may be disappointed by this news. However, the Society is committed to reducing our carbon footprint, and we hope our readers can appreciate the environmental benefits of this decision.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the readers of the British Journal of Aesthetics for their continued support; as well as the Editors, Paloma Atencia Linares and Derek Matravers, for their excellent work.
