About the speaker: Brian Ball is a Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at New College of the Humanities, London and an Associate Member of the Faculty of Philosophy at Oxford. His philosophical interests are primarily in the philosophy of language, metaphysics, epistemology, and philosophy of mind. He’s published on a wide variety of topics, with titles including ‘Speech Acts: Natural or Normative Kinds?’, ‘Counter Closure and Knowledge Despite Falsehood’, and ‘Deriving the Norm of Assertion’. He added philosophical aesthetics to his list of interests at the BSA’s annual conference in 2017, at which he presented a paper called ‘Good Art First’ that extended his work on normative kinds to include art.

Additional information: The lecture will be followed by a dinner with our speaker. If you would like to attend the dinner, please contact the organisers by 14 February.
*** There are limited funds to cover dinner expenses for two students, offered on a first-come-first-served basis. ***
